Newton Falls, N.Y. — MisfitPets SafePaws Alliance has officially received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, marking a major step forward in its mission to support animals and pet owners across rural St. Lawrence County and surrounding communities. The designation allows the organization to pursue grants, accept tax-deductible donations, and expand its services.

The organization focuses on trap-neuter-return (TNR) programs for community cats and operates a pet food pantry for families facing temporary hardship. These efforts help reduce stray animal populations, improve animal health, and ensure pets can remain in their homes during difficult times.

“Our goal is to create practical, compassionate solutions that meet real needs in our community,” said Founder Kasondra Larussi. “Achieving nonprofit status allows us to grow our impact and build stronger support from the community.”

In addition to expanding TNR services and pet food assistance, the organization plans to increase community education on responsible pet ownership and spay/neuter awareness. Long-term goals include bringing low-cost veterinary care to the area and developing a cat rescue program, addressing gaps in services for local cats.
