Fire at Newton Falls Paper Mill Closes County Route 60 for hours

At approximately 5PM on Sunday September 28th, the Star Lake Fire Department And Cranberry lake Fire Department responded to 865 County Route 60 in Newton Falls, for a fire in the Office upstairs.
Upon arrival the Offices on the second floor of the Paper Mill were fully engulfed. Harrisville and Fine fire departments were called in for Mutual Aid, and it was still too difficult to tackle. Star Lake and Cranberry Lake fire departments were accompanied by Harrisville Vol. Fire Department, Fine Vol. Fire Department, Tupper Lake Fire Department, Gouverneur Fire Department, Potsdam Fire Department, Canton Fire Department, Natural Bridge Fire Department, New York State Police, and Saranac Lake Fire Department.
The cause of the fire is Unknown at this time and will be updated when we hear more.
About the NFPM: The Newton Falls Paper Mill (NFPM) was a historic pulp and paper mill in Newton Falls, New York, that operated for 106 years before closing in 2000. After closing, it briefly reopened in 2007 as Newton Falls Fine Paper but was closed again by June 2011.
